Jankipur, Saraikella - Kharswan, Jharkhand | Sujeeta Tudu
The implementation of Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme or RGRES/ RGGVY has failed yet again in Jharkhand. The villagers' hopes soared when the electricity poles were brought in 10 years ago in 2005 but, the work was left incomplete. Jankipur along with 101 more villages in the district have no access to electricity even after Jharkhand government's INR 5800 crore plan to power up villages. While 971 out of 1183 villages in Seraikella-Kharsawan district remain in darkness because of administration's tardiness and negligence in replacing faulty transformers.

Government of India has launched the scheme “Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana” for rural electrification. The erstwhile Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) scheme for village electrification and providing electricity distribution infrastructure in the rural areas has been subsumed in the DDUGJY scheme. Rural Electrification Corporation is the Nodal Agency for implementation of DDUGJY.
